Sun Devils Look To Unlikely Star To Get Out of Slump
Last Saturday’s loss to Wazzu was a buzzer shot that didn’t go in, later they were dropped from the polls, and Thursday the ASU Sun Devils (14-6, 4-4 Pac-10) were destroyed by No. 5 UCLA, 84-51.
This is the fourth straight loss for ASU and unfortunately, this time they cannot blame it on being blinded by Rudy Carpenter’s hot pink shirt*.
What they can do is regroup and formulate a new plan to earn them a win tonight against the USC Trojans (13-7, 4-4 Pac- 10)…and that is exactly what ASU coach, Herb Sendek has in mind.
The man Sendek’s going to rely on to lead the team tonight is Guard Miquil Smith, a junior, who until tonight has not seen any playing time (ever). “I feel Miquil can help motivate the guys to do better and get us out of this slump” Sendek said. “He has an on and off the court presence that cannot be matched”.
Miquil Smith, 26, when asked if he was surprised by Sendek’s sudden decision and nervous about playing in tonight’s game with only one full practice under his belt, replied coolly, “I s’pose it’s a surprise since it’s not everyday a playa goes from partying in the stands with some Tempe 12 honeys one week, to bein’ in tha game tha next”.
He added, “Me nervous? Nah, I gotz basketball skillz running through my veins, ain’t no one gonna be able to stop me once my JMan23’s hit the Galen Center floor…I’m ready to go triple-double on them Trojans”.
Smith further stated, “I tolz Coach Sen-Dizzle and the boyz that I’ll set tone and I am 2,000% sure ASU will get a win a tonight”. “The one thing that would be for real is for my first game to be at home at Wellz cuz then after we stomp them foolz, tha team coulda been hittin’ up the Penthouse Desire SuperParty with my boy Snoop Dawg!”
Guard Dereck Glasser, who will share playing time with Smith explained, “I think Miquil is a good addition to the team, he loves basketball and always talks about the days growing up in
