How Green Was My Chavez Ravine

Last night, amidst playing trivia, listening to karaoke, and witnessing yet another Lakers domination I learned that Shawn Green has retired from baseball after 15 years in the majors.  Article.

I was sad at first since SG is one of my favorite players; however, I realize he’s had a great career. Here are just a few highlights:

I was there for his Dodgers and Diamondbacks days; I must admit I was a bit out of touch once he went to the Mets.  I was able to see Green play and hit a handful of his 328 homeruns. I even witnessed one homerun when I was super sick; so sick that a day or two after I went to urgent care.

Then there were the days that he struggled and then there were the trade talks, I was there for those too.

It does pain me to recall the game, in 2003 I think, when he opted not to dive for a blooper in the eighth inning of a no-hitter for Odalis Perez. Not only did we get sunburned that day, I had to tune out the boos and taunting he received throughout the rest of the game.

I was at games when big, fat, obnoxious Dodger “fans” yelled and cursed at Green while he was in the outfield.  He couldn’t win either way, he didn’t want to leave the Dodgers (who blames him) but how many trade talks does it take to realize you should give another team a shot?  Even when he showed his loyalty to the Dodgers, he was beat up by fans who loved to hate him.

I’ll miss seeing Shawn Green on the field, but everytime I hear ‘Song 2′, I’ll remember the good old days.

He was good n the D-backs and would have hung around but we had to much young talent. D-backs fans always liked him.

Awwwww, via con dios SG… One of the prettiest swings ever

great title

you forgot to add his greatest record!! He had the largest ears of any man to ever play professional baseball. A record most experts feel may never be overcome.
