Earth Hour

In honor of Earth Hour, I will be turning on my lights and any other appliances I see fit. I’ve already turned on my A/C this year so I’ll be setting it to a cool 70 come tomorrow night.
Supposedly, this hour of darkness is supposed to boost awareness. Awareness of what, I ask. To quote a fellow blandlife contributor, “There was a time in our country’s history that we were proud to turn the lights on”. He is correct; our ancestors lived (and struggled) through the “old” days and invented solutions so we wouldn’t have to. This hour is simply a way for who participate to say they “did their part” and to chastise those who choose not to.
Personally, I see this hour as useless and as the perfect platform for would-be criminals to carry out some misdeeds and acts of violence. Not to mention, I also expect a spike in the birth rates nine months from now since I’ve already seen several news headlines that are listing “sexy” and “romantic” ways to celebrate Earth Hour. (Get ready for a whole new series of paternity test episodes of Maury Povich resulting from this)
In the words of Rush, Bruce Jacobs, and many others … Turn your lights on tomorrow!!

Yep!
Phoenicians can give an extra THANK YOU to Phil Gordon and Harry Mitchell for signing the city up for this one!
I guess this is the ultimate example of an empty gesture. I have been an eyewitness to the thousands of dollars being spent in Phoenix alone to promote this “event”. Hats, fleeces, billboards and tv commercials… all money that could have been donated to APS’s SHARE program to help underprivileged people pay their utility bills. All of this effort and money, and there won’t even be a blip on the power grid - great accomplishment greenies!!!
BUILD MORE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS!
I have to say…I burst out laughing when I read the first paragraph! And what is with all the teenage girls popping up in the ads here???

I agree! Why not take pride in the wonderful accomplishments in our nation’s past. Where would we be without Hoover Dam, Tennessee Valley Authority, etc.???
