The Nelson Costa Rica Law School Surf Tour 2008
Sponsored by FAFSA, Sallie Mae, and Wells Fargo with ongoing donations from “The Parker Nelson Pleasurable Beach Experience Protection Insurance,” for 5,000 colones he promises not to kick sand on you.
We arrived on Saturday and took a two hour taxi to the Costa Rican coastal city called Jaco. Jaco is internationally known for its incredible surf. First thing Sunday morning, we went to play on the beach (we didnt see a chapel anywhere on our path from our condo to the beach so we couldnt go to church… plus I didnt have a shirt on).
For the next two days we have surfed and wandered from one side of Jaco to the other (Jaco is barely 5 miles from one end to the other and maybe 1/2 a mile wide). The surf is incredible, it is overhead most of the time and there is nobody out there. There are a couple of Ticos (Costa Ricans) that surf and are really good and maybe another 5 tourists but thats it. Nothing like California. Sheri and I especially like watching the little Ticos, they must not be more than 7 out there just tearing it up.
Tomorrow we are going to some sort of butterfly forest. I guess its a jungle with lots of butterflies, dont really know too much more about it but I will write more if anything happens. Im sure that Sheri will offer a much more detailed description of the experience.
All in all, I am impressed with Jaco. Everyone said that this place was pretty rough and certainly, I doubt I would be bar crawling by myself at 2 in the morning, but for a family where kids go to sleep at 9, there isnt anything that has really given us pause yet. Lights in the city have gone out twice already but that is always after 11 and only once I was outside trying to score hookers and coke.
Sheri has started cooking Costa Rican dishes and the ladies at the supermarket are really surprised when she walks in there asking about what you put into Gallo Pinto in spanish, but they trip over themselves trying to help her. Everyone is really surprised to have gringos guien hablan el espanol, which gets us a little more attention then we would have had otherwise.
You cant tell from thepicture but Parker is balling his eyes out because Sheri sucks so bad.

ha ha! what an adventure! great pictures too. I am going to start visiting the sheri blog so I can rest assured she is okay - There is a sentiment back on the home front that she may have been wifenapped.
