Kobe Bryant, American Patriot

I heard the clip on Rush today … Cris Collinsworth asked Kobe Bryant “Where does the patriotism come from inside of  you” ….

His answer:

Well, you know, it’s just our country is, we believe, the greatest country in the world. It’s given us so many great opportunities, and it’s just a sense of pride that you have, that you say, “You know what? Our country is the best.”

COLLINSWORTH: Is that a cool thing to say in this day and age, that you love your country and that you’re fighting for the red, white, and blue?  It seems like sort of a day gone by.

BRYANT:  Nah, it’s a cool thing for me to say. You know, I feel great about it and I’m not ashamed to say it.  This is a tremendous honor.

I really liked hearing this from Kobe … it added to how content I was when Team USA took the field during the opening ceremonies, no one was acting up and the rest of the basketball didn’t look TOO thug.

Too bad at the same time, I had to listen to a couple of brainsurgeons next to me say “I would flip off the President if I was there” …  I wonder what they would think of Kobe’s interview?

Here’s another article about the interview.  Kobe WSJ Article.

classy. Collinsworth was trying to elicit some tired anti-american cliche - Kobe didn’t take the bait.
